Our Promise to You

At 901 FT we strongly believe in the 2nd Amendment. However, we also believe just as strongly that, along with the right to bear arms, comes great responsibility. That responsibility is that every responsible gun owner has the obligation to be proficient in the SAFE maintenance, storage, carry and use of their firearm. Every death or injury we prevent through the proper training of citizens who own and/or carry firearms is a measure of success.

Meet Our Instructors

Each of our instructors is either current or retired Law Enforcement or Military with years of experience and training to draw from.

Owner/Lead Instructor

Buddy Smith

Buddy is a US Army Veteran and retired Shelby County TN Deputy Sheriff. He is an FBI and NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, Advanced Firearms Instructor, FBI Certified Hostage Negotiator, NBC Specialist, Riot Control Instructor as well as several other certifications.

Mary Evans

Mary is a retired Shelby County Deputy Sheriff with 25 yrs of service. Mary is an FBI Certified Firearms Instructor. Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from LeMoyne-Owen College and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Bethel University. As a Law Enforcement Instructor Mary taught Courtroom Security, Child Sexual Abuse, Elder Abuse, CPR, Self Defense and Combat Shooting. She created the curriculum "Critical Thinking for Law Enforcement", designed to help officers develop good decision-making skills.

Firearms Instructor, Threat Assessment Specialist

Chad Cunningham

Chad is a 30 year career Law Enforcement Officer. He is retired from Shelby County Sheriff's Office. He is an FBI certified Firearms Instructor and certified Armorer. He is certified in Threat and Vulnerability Assessment. Chad is a Riot Control Instructor and trained in Small Detail Dignitary Protection. In addition, he is a certified Bomb Technician.
