About the event
Handling conflicts between students, teachers and parents can be difficult, especially in today's environment. Students break into fights and attack teachers who try to break it up. Parents become angry when their child is disciplined and held accountable for their actions. The teacher is the one stuck in the middle, often having to physically defend themselves and hope they can keep their jobs. This workshop is taught by a retired LEO, who served as a Hostage Negotiator for over 10 years, and was trained by the FBI as a Crisis Negotiator. We are going to offer up ideas that may help reduce the stress in the classroom and also head off physical conflict before it begins. Additionally, we will discuss ideas on de-escalating once a physical conflict begins, without endangering yourself or the student unnecessarily.Â
